Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me (Ps. 51:10 KJV).

COMMON GRACE ARGUMENT:

This text is sometimes interpreted to teach that the unregenerate are able, or duty-bound, to pray to God for regeneration.

… we note that David petitioned God to create in him a clean heart when he was already regenerate (Ps. 51:10). Never in the history of the world has an unregenerate sinner asked God for regeneration.
